AWS Electronics Group sees strong growth in Medical sector

Leading EMS company supports innovative sector with NPI and Fast Track services

Worcester, UK – April 2015: AWS, one of Europe’s leading specialist contract electronics manufacturers, is enabling new, innovative medical products and systems to be brought to market quickly and effectively by supporting development activities with services designed to simplify new product introduction.

AWS CEO Paul Deehan comments: “Having just exhibited at the MedTec show in London, we know that the UK is a leader in developing all sorts of new cures, introducing systems that address conditions including diabetes, stress, cardio-vascular, and urinary and blood disorders. Many of these new systems are wearable, or at least portable. But mostly they are not produced in the same huge quantities as consumer goods, so the manufacturing processes – especially during product development - need special attention.”

AWS addresses these requirements in two ways. Firstly, the company offers a Fast Track and New Product Development service at its Newcastle-under-Lyme facility. The service is available for low run production volumes as well as prototyping activities supports all board technologies from basic single-sided PCB technology to complex multi-layer PCB assemblies. Technical engineering teams see projects through from start to finish, implementing the latest Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) techniques to assure build quality.

Then when a product does go into production, if cost is a consideration, AWS has a second facility in Slovakia which is a mirror image of the UK facility and which enables manufacturing costs to be kept as low as possible.

Adds Deehan: “Medical customers often have very exacting technical requirements, yet they also demand the highest quality levels. We deal with development phases through our Fast Track department and then do full first time capability runs and sign off volume production processes on the production lines in the facility that the product is actually going to be finally manufactured in. Fast Track line so that we know a build is viable when it eventually goes into full production.”
